Maybe you need to clear the cache..?

Go to admin -> forum maintence -> routine -> clear cache

If you use 2.0 RC 1-1..

After downloading to your computer, go into your forum's admin section, then go to packages, ok, on this page locate the words download packages, see the text box?  Beside of it is the word browse, now click that word, it will take you to your computer, browse, or look for, where you downloaded the software, EZPortal.  Found it?  Good.  Now click it, it is now in the text box, look for the word, upload, click it.

It will take a moment or two depending on your connection, but now you should see, EZPortal 3.2  to the right you will see the word, apply mod,  click it and it should go from there.

SMF For Free is a hosted version of SMF. It will be updated once I get the next major release of EzPortal completed.

SMF For Free does all the updates by hand so once they update you will have it.

I don't understand what your problem is exactly.  Do you remember where you save the file after downloading?  I always saved files in My Documents/downloads. You can save it to your desktop to find easier.

In your admin section of your forum, open the 'packages' folder, then click on 'download packages', here are several choices.  Use 'upload package', then beside of the empty textbox, you will see the word, 'browse', click that word.  This will take you to your home computer. It should open onto your desktop.  If your file is there, click it and its location is copied into the empty textbox.  At the right in the bottom corner is the word, 'upload', click it and your files is uploaded to your server.

Your screen will change if it is a successful upload, now you should see the word, 'apply mod', it is on the right of the menu box, click it and the mod will be applied.  A few things can go wrong here, if there are errors and it tells that 'tests failed', it would be better to not follow through with the install.

But if 'tests are successful', click the word 'install mod'.  There shouldn't be any errors or problems but if there are, I would immediately uninstall the mod and go to the server and delete it from the server.  That cannot be done from the admin section of your forum.  You must login to your cpanel and access it from there.

So, download again and remember where you saved the file.  Good luck!

How do you normally download files from the Internet?  You must click the the download link, usually named, 'download'.  This will automatically begin the download, your browser should ask if you want to saved or run the file.  Click saved, a dialog is open, you then browse to a location on YOUR computer where you can saved the file.  You do not need any special programs for downloading from the net, your browser has this ability already.

You must go to admin section, look for the word 'packages,'  it is easy to find.  Click it to open the folder, your different choices are there.  If you want, create an account for me and I will look and see.  I will warned you though, giving strangers access like this is not wise unless you really trust a person.

You have a free SMF forum, I see.  I am not certain but I don't think you have controlled over your admin section such as someone who has a host that they pay to host their forum.  I do not have a free SMF so I am not certain.  But I think any modification done to your forum has to be done by the ones that is giving you the space.

I would advise that if you want more control to get yourself a web host, for shared hosting it is about a $100 a year.  Look into it.

Give me the url for your site so I can see just what you have.  But I do not think you can get it but like I said, I do not have a free forum and I do not know the limitations for one.  I think that you also do not have a cpanel, do you?  Contact the people who you get your forum from and let them do this IF they will, again I do not kow.

I just looked, you do have EZPortal aleady so I do not know why you are not given the option for packages there.  You could have a much nicer looking forum if you had a host and more control than you have now.  I am not please with how your forum looks at the monment.  It could be much neater and not so 'buzy'.

No, I didn't mean that, what I meant was you have a version of EZPortal, so it had to be installed somehow, did you installed it or did someone else? From the clip you showed me, you did not have an option for 'packages', so I am baffled completely. Now, I think there is a way of installing it from your cpanel by FTP the file to your server and extracting it.  But I have never used that method for a portal, only for the forum software itself.  I actually prefer that way of installing and upgrading the forum.

I wish you would looked into getting your own personal domain and web site.  For me, it is much more fulfilling. There are several good ones out there.  Research them and see which one most fit your needs.  A Cpanel is a must and not all hosts has one.  Also Apache servers is another plus as is a site builder if you do not know how to code. Also checked bandwidth allowed and space, and domains.  I will not recommend one because I am not in the business, just research them all and ask them questions before committing.

I recently created my own forum in smfforfree website. I also encountered this problem and messages on the top of the board had showed on. I don't know how to install and I would try those possible options you gave. I just hope they would really help.

I am having an issue with this as well..I am using a free web service host as well... and I cant get any MODS to upload to my forum... could the free hosting be the issue as you said in earlier posts? I have used SMF before and am racking my brain on this one... Thanks

Always back up everything first!

If you have or had another portal installed this must be uninstalled! unless it an EzPortal update!
It must be installed from you SMF Admin control panel Packages > and so on!
If you get any warnings when trying to install do not go forward!

As far as the web host you should ask them, and on the EzPortal install if you do have FTP access, you can check your directory to see if, the are there..
I would first check and see if the Zip package was not corrupted when you down loaded it from here... it happens!

I'm hoping you installed the zip file via admin packages download. If so check installed packages to see it it's in there, if it the first time installing it, and it's there uninstall if if possible without errors!!!! if you get errors or warning do not do it.

Delete the Ezportal zip you have and re-download it to your local computer> then upload it through your admin again, if you have and older version it should update the portal!

If you do not have FTP check your Web hosting Cpanel file manager.

Please let us know exactly how you tried to install this package

Regards,
max
