i just installed the quick ban feature, pretty cool, had missed that in the list.

would it be possible to integrate the quick ban, email restriction, and guest email mods? and let me say forthright, i am not a coder, im cut and paster.  it was just an idea.  i just know as it stands, the guest with email, bypasses email restriction on registration.

so basically, you hit member delete, or post deletion, all functions restrict the same?

i know this probably isnt the correct place to post, just a random thought maybe you could even help direct where to go?

preciate your time.

these are the mods i have installed, there are several i cleared from the list as they didnt work on auto install.

any input would be appreciated.

I think the no sig's, especially when combined with not allowing someone to change their profile without a set amount of posts should do the trick.  I simply don't think allowing guest posting works anymore.

There are a couple of people out there that put together a list of forums that people can spam and then sell them to thousands of people every month.  It sucks big time if you get hit.

I'm using the SMF 2 RC3 and they are working on and using what seems to be a pretty good Sign-up spam blocker, I have at my sign at time 10 -20 Ip's from over seas trying to sign up their bits, but are unable to do so...so far that is. and like mention before along with strict rules and guide lines, not allowing gust to post and members that need 10-20 post before they can add a sig file and not allowing links in those sig's. ( these above, will prevent allot)..

Spammer Ip's can not always be banned or blocked because there are many guest and or members that are using the same ISP or Provider. ( so also see where they are cumming from by tracing them) before blocking or banning them,>!<

Some hints maybe if you see many very close IP addressed, you can trace them, on RC3 anyway and see where they come from, can if they are over seas, then chances are they are a bot!

I allow every member to have one link to their site and or business, but must be of relevance to my Community!

I set up a Welcome members forum that auto replies to them and places a post in the Welcome form automatically from the Admin, they may then introduce themselves then place that one Link to their site!

Again please keep in mind I'm using RC3.

But you never want to turn your back on your Forum or community, because some one may just find their way in to hack you!

An in just a few days, you may come back and find, all kinds real bad stuff, and illegal stuff posted there! so much that you want to just close it down. been there done that.

Coder's are working hard to deal with these spammer's, but it's a full time job keeping up with them!

and only give the guest permission to view, and maybe only download certain items, but nothing else!!

Regards,
Maxx
