New Install problem
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:13:47 pm »
This is such an obvious problem I was surprised not to be able to find it when I searched - tho maybe I used the wrong terms.

Basically, I installed via Package Manager and did some small configurations expecting to see the portal blocks when I returned to the home page... but I didn't.

I thought perhaps I needed the default theme (well you never know) so changed it to SMF Default - still nothing. All I see is exactly what was there before, i.e. the basic front page. I tried using EZportal front page...all that did was remove the forums from view so I 'unticked' it and came here.

What do I need to do to make the portal blocks show on the site? :)

The following controls what blocks are shown where.
Membergroups - which member groups can see the ezBlock
Visible Settings - which actions/boards to show the ezBlocks

Aslo if you are using the top and bottom ezBlocks make sure the are enabled for the top and bottom columns.

If you enable the Portal you must also check show on portal under visibility settings for the ezBlock

I'm the Admin (obviously :)) so everythingshould be visible to me already?

Also... "Visible Settings"?? The menu shows the following SETTINGS, MODULES, IMPORT, CREDITS - where are 'Visible' (using SMS 1.1.11 btw)

Am I missing something fundamental?? Not being critical... I had problems with TinyPortal on another forum so I expect it's something straightforward I've not caught on to yet. :)

By default for admins blocks should be visible but it depends on what settings are selected when you add the ezblock

Go to the ezBlock Manager.  Find you the ezBlock that you added and click on the edit link.
On the edit page of ezBlock there should be a link called "Visible Settings" and by clicking is where you decide what action to show the ezBlock on

Aha... maybe that's the problem?? I need to add a block manually first?? I assumed the 'basics' would be available from install. Ok... next silly question... does it *come* with blocks (such as logon) and if so... where do I find them... ?

(and if not... where do I find them??) :)

Yeah you have to addblocks to columns first.
ezPortal comes with about 30 built in ezBlocks

Just go to the ezBlock manager and then find a column such as left, right, center and add a block to that column.

Heh... I thought it would be something simple and obvious that I'd missed ! :)

Ok, not quite as intuitive as perhaps it could be but I'll go fiddle about for a while and see how it goes. Many thanks for the timely assistance! :D
