Problem with Theme select block
« on: August 13, 2009, 11:57:50 pm »
ezPortal installed fine and I installed the Select Themes block on the left.

When I select a new theme it changes to that theme but logs me out. When I log back in again, I go back to the default theme.

What's happening?

Couldn't find anything in the code that would log the user out if they changed the theme.

Currently the theme select ezblock does not save that change forever just for the current session.

I know this way too late for some but never too late for others./

If you are not showing themes, there could be a few things causing this.

You need to select from the SMF Admin Menu> Themes and Layout>Manage and Install>own to>Themes and Layout Settings Click on>

"[ Show the list of themes ]" then select what all Themes you want the members to be able to view and change!

I don't recommend the guest to be able to select these unless you are demoing the theme!

You now can go to your permissions section of the Admin panel and select the permissions you want to give your members and guest and staff. (Themes in this case).

OK now we'll go to the EZ-blocks section:

First While in the Admin control panel( SMF) you can select EZPortal ezBlock Manager>
click on "Left - Edit Column  - Disable/Enabled" make sure it is set for "Enabled"!
then select "Add ezBlock"! a window will "Add ezBlock" from the Drop down menu> select> "Theme select ezblock">
Now press Add Ezblock> then you will get 2 rows of radio buttons that you may chose whom will be able to view the theme select ezblock!

Example:
Guests
Regular Members
Administrator
Assistant Site Admin
Jr. Moderator
Site Administrator
Super Site Moderator
Check All

Then the other side you'll get this: who will manage ezblocks ( but do not select any of these because it will over right your permissions set before!

ezBlock Managers
Assistant Site Admin
Jr. Moderator
Site Administrator
Super Site Moderator

Now:
Additional Settings  "radio button" User can collapse this ezBlock click this if you want>
then right under you'll need to click on the " Add ezblock button!

Not finished yet!

Now you'll find and this is the best part you visible settings, this where and how you want this block to be shown:

Note the above is my site, your's will appear different, you will find a radio button beside all these, now if you do as I and just show it on the Forum or index page or all or just a select few categories!

Hope this helps and you may go back and edit all this if you decide to, and change the block name also to Themes or what ever!

Any trouble please ask!

regards,
Maxx

One Important thing I found is if the theme you select is not comparable with your current SMF Version and or corrupt.. it will go to the default or core SMF theme.

And another problem some have is say a member changes the theme to what they like and the next time they log in, the default theme comes up.. this is because they have not set their preferred theme from their profile settings..

To do this click on profile>under "Modify Profile" select>Look and Layout> then you'll find the following:

Current Theme:  DarkModern (change) Now Click on "change" and select your theme of choice!

Note there are many other settings you may select to suit your needs:

---------
Time Format:
Help The format here will be used to show dates throughout this forum.

Time Offset:
Number of hours to +/- to make displayed time equal to your local time.
    (auto detect)
Current forum time: May 07, 2010, 10:01:15 AM
(all are radio buttons)
    * Show board descriptions inside boards.
    * Show child boards on every page inside boards, not just the first.
    * Use sidebar menus instead of dropdown menus when possible.
    * Don't show users' avatars.
    * Don't show users' signatures.
    * Return to topics after posting by default.
    * Don't warn on new replies made while posting.
    * Hide messages posted by members on my ignore list.
    * Show most recent posts at the top.
    * Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.
    * Topics to display per page:
    * Messages to display per page:
    * First day of the week on the calendar:
    * Use quick reply on topic display:
    * Show quick-moderation as

When finished click on the Change profile button to the bottom right!

Please note this is for SMF version 2 RC3

regards,
Maxx

I have SMF 2.0 with the Theme Select block installed, I have it set for all groups to use, visable on all boards.

Users, as well as myself, select the theme, click change.  The theme changes but when I close the browser and then re-open the site, it's back to the previous theme.

Members and I can use the forum profile, look and layout and change the theme there with no issues.

The question is, is this block a preview for the theme only or is there a bug that is preventing the theme from makeing a permenant change to the profile?
