EzPortal and Memebergroup/Permissions
« on: March 26, 2015, 04:53:28 pm »
Hi,

Having some issues on the Forum, I LOVE Ezportal (3.0.3) on SMF 2.0.9,  I'm kinda having an Issue With the Permissions/Memebergroups, All New Registered Users Go to a POST group Of Newbie (My Creation Not the SMF Built in), And As a 0 Post Group they can't have their post displayed until Approved by A Moderator, Then They Step Up To "Newly Registered Group" where they can Do what they want, Now On the EzPortal Settings my POST Memebergroup is not shown in the Permissions (Only Admin Assigned Permission show)...  SO Me Thinking I'm Bright Made a New Membergroup (Admin Assigned), so it would "Show Up" in the EzPortal Permission List, Then I associated my Newbie Group to the "Newbie-Portal" Group That I created.... AND still no Go, It works for New Users Signing in Regularly, But I've been Working on Intergrating Social Media, And The One that's Causing Unseen Portal is Twitter, When It returns from the Approval and ALL that it Just shows the Forum With out Portal.... If they Post and Get Approved, BAMN, There It Is, and If I set them as Newly Registered On Return From twitter it Works...

So I'm Not sure, Kinda Confused, (Can you tell?), In my Mind If I Made an Admin Assigned Permission Group CALLED Newbie-Portal, Inherited the Permission to Newbie, and went to EzPortal and Click "Newbie-Portal" they should be able to see the portal pages?

Well, Nope....

And that's where I'm Stuck at....  Any Ideas???

Thanks for any Insight.

Mike

Permissions in ezPortal are basic it does not support post based groups nor secondary level groups.
It is just checking the primary membergroup of the member itself.

Ok, So do you have an Idea to Make It so Registered Newbies fall into a No Post (without approval) area But can still get the Portal Display?

I want everyone (Except Bots & Banned) to Have the Portal..... Heck Guest got it and Registered Newbies Don't, That Was My Confused part, I was Like "Ok, I registered, And "Lost" Content"....

Any Ideas Except for letting the Spammers Run Ramped? (I.E. Putting them In the Newly Reg Group) instead of Newbie group.

Mike

EDIT: I Feel I'm Confusing The Issue Here...

Guest - Can't do anything but View <-- Can See Portal
Newbie = 0 Posts (But Registered) Can do Everything But Post Without Approval..  <-- Cant see Portal (Once Posted and Approved Becomes -> Newly Registered)  <
Newly Registered = (Approved) 1 Post, Can do What The Want... <-- Can See Portal...

Mike,
other than the Portal permissions!

if you want you, may do most any permission setting for the SMF, via the  Admin control center. You can even set up new user groups for there.

Visit the SMF Admin, under Members >

   Members
  • Members
  • Membergroups      < --------- set member groups permissions
  • Permissions             < ---- set from detailed list of permissions
  • Registration
  • Ban List
  • Search Engines
For a sign, a member to a specific Group, select the user's profile and take it for there!

If you still have issue pleas let me know!

regards,
Maxx

That's what I did, for Example: If I "Inherit" My Newbie group from "Guest" they can see the Protal Put it messes up permission wise, that's Why I made the Admin Assigned (So It would show up in EzPortal Permission Settings) and had My Newbie's Inherit from Newbie-Portal and it doesn't work...

Question is Why When I Inherit From "Guest" it works, But When I inherit from "Newbie-Portal" it doesn't.....
I added some attachments maybe will help figure this out...

Basically a "Newbie" with inherited permission from "Newbie-Portal" Doesnt get the portal when I give them the permission in EzPortal.
But when I Inherit from "Guest" it Does...
Problem with that is Guest Can't post...

Mike when you set up a board, it will give you option to whom may view that board, or you could  edit the board after it s done from the settings to the right of each board and set to who may view it.

also each Block can be edited to select who( user group ) the block is viewable to!

Now When it come to SMF permissions I do it the hard way selecting the permission, for each group individually. I never inherit them form pre sets.

Select >permissions > user group ie: Newbie > click on link right side "modify" opens new windows> then carefully set individual permissions to that Group! and save ( the hard way but I feel the best way!

Hope that helps

Maxx

Ok, Ya, I get that, But I think the Basic Issue Is, EzPortal Doesn't allow you to Select "Post Based Membergroups" If it did, This wouldn't be a Problem,  I checked the Permissions and All I seen was giving users the Ability To Moderate the EzBlocks (I'll Re-Check)..  And as Far as Boards are Concerned it's set for all...And I Set the Permissions (That where available) in EzBlocks

I mean I really Love this Mod/Portal, Or I wouldn't be going through all the Believe...LOL

I kinda Got it working, I made an ADMIN Assigned based GROUP (Not Post Based), so now, New Users are set to have their 1st post Approved, When it is approved it doesn't move them out of Newbie to Newly Registered, But they Get the permissions of Newly Registered (Which is Posting without mod approval), Basically this is SPAM prevention...

So everything is WORKING AS IT SHOULD, EXCEPT "For the Users Title", It doesn't change, which I can Live with..

In the Future for an Upgrade might be good just to Allow ALL Permissions to Be Assigned In EzBlocks, So that way just Tick it and done...

And Ya, I'm New to SMF been running the forum now for 7 Months on PHPBB, and switched over because everyone on the forums over there are a-holes.... Hell of a reason to switch but I did....

SO I Appreciate ALL YOUR HELP!! If you can figure a way that I can Get the titles to change Let Me know...

I'm figuring my issue is Newbie is a Built in SMF Category.... I Can't Delete it, I tried...

Mike My eyes are not that these days and I can very well understand the frustrations that user's can go through and no no one wants to deal with it or the user.

Did you by chance the Block setting and panel setting to see if there is any setting that may help?

And there are many things to prevent spam, but if you let someone new in the area, you should take precautions, by making then get verified up to a set amount of post, I use a set amount, if it's someone I know I up their post count to over ride my default setting!

If I'm missing something, I'll try to get back at it soon!

Maxx
